3rd January - 13th January 2016

Once again Scouting Radio have teamed up with JNN-FM & JNN-TV to assist with reports and broadcasts from the Australian Jamboree.

The 2016 Australian Jamboree (or AJ2016) is the 24th Australian Jamboree, where over 12,000 Scouts will converge on a location somewhere around Australia to camp for 2 glorious weeks of fun, fantastic adventure and friendship.

AJ2016 will be held at the Cataract Scout Park located on the edge of Cataract Lake (or Dam… depends how you look at it!), in New South Wales, Australia. While a great deal of activities will be held onsite, such as Abseiling, BMX bike riding, and a High Ropes course, there will also be a range of offsite activities. These offsite activities range from taking the kids on tours of Sydney, to a visit to the Jambaroo Adventure Park, and much, much more!

Just for fun, there will be special court sessions at Australiana Village, where Scouts at the Jamboree will have the chance to bring your leaders to trial for the many irritating ways they may annoy them on camp. Scouts can have Leaders charged with disturbing the peace because of their snoring or for child slavery because they made you wash all the dirty cooking pans! Scouts at AJ2016 can get even by making a citizen’s arrest and bringing them to trial. See them be publicly humiliated and subjected to the hash punishments suffered in colonial times, if they are found guilty!

Yes – Scouts could strike it rich when you pan for gold at Australiana Village, the Jamboree’s own historic recreation of colonial life in Australia. As well as discovering if there really is gold “in them there hills”, they can make candles, try their hand at blacksmithing, watch the courthouse trials, see convicts flogged and much more.

Organised by the NSW Rovers this activity will let Scouts travel back in time and spend half a day taking part in all the traditional Scout Craft and Bush Craft activities. Scouts will spend half a day on some really great traditional activities such as:

  • Construction
  • Knights Challenge
  • Navigation
  • Communication
  • Heritage Camp

Run away to the circus! The Circus is a half-day activity located centrally in the Jamboree site. Scouts will learn to juggle and unicycle and develop trampoline skills. There will also be Circus themed games and activities.

  • Juggling
  • Tightrope
  • Acrobalance/Tumbling
  • Trampolining
  • Diablo
  • Face Painting
  • Stilt Walking
  • Staff Spinning

Endurance is a full day bush initiative adventure, with a strong relationship to the Venturer section – promoting teamwork and initiative. Scouts will spend the day navigating a bush course, meeting the exciting challenges at activity bases. Activities can include:

  • Bridge Building
  • Obstacles
  • Skirmish
  • Crate Stacking
  • Bubble Bull Rush
  • Giant Board Games

AJ’s Got Talent is a competition to find the most talented Scout performer at AJ2016. Heats will be held in the Mini Arena, with the Grand Final being hosted in the Main Arena on the second last night of Jamboree (Jan 12th). The winner will take home a prize from our sponsor MacPac.

During the heats, Scouts will have the opportunity to perform their act before our panel of judges. At the end of each heat, the top 3 become finalists who will perform in the Grand Final.
