6th August to 9th August 2016

Scouting Radio is delighted to team up with Scouts South Africa's Akela 2016. We shall be broadcasting parts of the workshop live. The theme of Akela 2016 is Ubuntu

Let’s embrace the “Ubuntu” spirit of togetherness as we come together from all corners of the world with our various cultures and experiences to interact, learn, laugh and make a difference in the lives of Cubs and communities worldwide.

The 2nd International Akela takes place from the 6th to the 9th of August 2016 at Wag ‘n Bietjie Campsite, Olifantsfontein,  Johannesburg, Gauteng. Akela 2016 is open to all Pack Scouters and Adult leaders who empower and inspire children ages 7-11 within the Scouting Movement.

Not only will we be exchanging ideas and practices, we will also get adventurous and crafty. Akela 2016 will include a variety of workshops, indoor and outdoor activities and a community service project which entails the renovation of early childhood development centers in the neighboring communities.

SCOUTS South Africa has set the challenge to all its members as part of its Centenary Celebrations to help 100 Early Childhood Development Centers nationwide. As part of Akela 2016 we will work together to provide children from a local community with a better place to feel safe, learn, have fun and grow!

In addition we will build a small English Library at one of the schools. Each Akela 2016 participant is therefore encouraged to bring along an English children’s book to place in the Library.

In addition to our workshops, activities and projects a small SCOUT Shop, Information desk and Coffee corner will be open to all! Pop in for a coffee and chat with new friends!
