The point being that radio, although being a mass medium, is also personal in its truest sense. It is yours, it is your friend, your confidante, your nearest and dearest. It lifts you, it moves you, it is visceral. It is there when you need it, morning, noon and night. Radio is yours and for those closest to us, and we share with those that speak to us. Radio reaches your heart and soul like nothing else. It is the story of our lives and will always be about our hopes and dreams, this year and next, and within that there is true value.
With Scouting Radio we aim to do the same. We aim to share with the world the values of Scouting, whether you are a Scout, a former Scout, a parent or someone interested in the Scouting Movement. With our radio programmes and outdoor broadcasts we hope to bring a vision of a campsite or jamboree to those who wish they were there and could attend. We hope to make the world of Scouting, a movement of 30 million smaller through the powers of our station.
Scouting Radio has been broadcasting since the 22nd Feb 2005. Since our launch we have grown in listenership and have gained recognition in several awards including:
• Winner at the 2008 Student Media Awards
• Finalist at the 2007 Digital Media Awards
• Finalist at the 2005 Student Media Awards
Scouting Radio won the 2008 Student Media Awards for website design of the year. We were also shortlisted in 2 other categories on the night.
Digital Media Intelligence (DMI) launched the first ever Digital Media Awards in Dublin in January 2003. The awards have now received endorsement from the European Digital Media Association (EDiMA) and the American Digital Media Association (DiMA), which makes the 2005 Digital Media Awards a global competition.
